The Aviva Stadium – also known as the Dublin Arena – replaced the old Lansdowne Road in 2010 on the same site in the Ballsbridge district of Dublin. Built at a cost of around €410 million and designed by Populous (the same firm behind the new Wembley), it is a dual-purpose stadium used by both the Republic of Ireland football team and the Irish rugby union team.

It holds the distinction of hosting the 2011 UEFA Europa League final, in which Porto beat Braga 1-0 in an all-Portuguese affair. A second Europa League final is possible in the future given Dublin’s growing reputation as a major sports event host.

For Euro 2028, Dublin is the busiest venue after Wembley in terms of match count – hosting five group stage matches, a Round of 16, and a Quarter-Final. The Republic of Ireland’s group games will all be played here if they qualify. Uniquely for this tournament, getting to Dublin requires either a flight or a ferry – there is no rail connection from the UK mainland.
