The Etihad Stadium was built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games as the City of Manchester Stadium, before being handed over to Manchester City in 2003. Since then it has been expanded twice and is being enlarged again ahead of Euro 2028, with capacity set to reach around 58,000-60,000 by the time the tournament arrives.

Under Pep Guardiola, the Etihad has hosted Champions League nights at the highest level, becoming one of the most recognisable modern football stadiums in Europe. Its East Stand expansion is a visible symbol of the club’s transformation over the past two decades.

For Euro 2028, the Etihad is England’s likely opening match venue if they qualify, alongside four other fixtures across multiple groups. The stadium is served by the Metrolink tram network, making it straightforward to reach from Manchester city centre and Piccadilly station.
