Principality Stadium
Wales’ national stadium opens Euro 2028 on 9 June and returns for the quarter-final – right in the centre of Cardiff, a few minutes from the station.
The Principality Stadium – known as the National Stadium of Wales – sits right in the heart of Cardiff, built on the site of Cardiff Arms Park. Opened in 1999 to host the Rugby World Cup, it has become one of the most versatile major stadiums in Europe, with a retractable roof that allows it to host events in almost any weather.
For football, it has a strong track record: it hosted FA Cup and League Cup finals while Wembley was being rebuilt between 2001 and 2006, and staged the 2017 UEFA Champions League final, in which Real Madrid beat Juventus 4-1.
For Euro 2028, Cardiff has the most prominent role of any stadium outside Wembley – hosting the tournament’s opening match on 9 June, three further group stage games, a Round of 16 tie, and a quarter-final. Its location makes it uniquely walkable: Cardiff Central station is five minutes from the gates.
